School Day KS2
At Riverside, every day is filled with exciting learning opportunities, friendship, and fun. We provide a structured yet engaging environment where children feel happy, safe, and ready to learn. Here’s what a typical day looks like at our school.
Morning Routine
9:10 – Doors Open
Children arrive at school, greeted by staff as they enter the classroom. This is a chance to settle in, chat with friends, and get ready for the day ahead.
9:15 – Registration & Morning Task
The school day officially begins with registration. Children may have a short task, such as morning challenges, handwriting practice, or being given the opportunity
9:30 – English
The first lesson of the day is usually focused on English. Pupils explore writing, spelling and grammar through engaging texts and creative activities.
10:30– Assembly (on selected days)
Assemblies are a time for the whole of a key stage to come together. These may focus on values, achievements, British values, or special themes such as diversity, kindness, or resilience.
10:45 – Break Time
A chance to run, play, and socialise! Children enjoy outdoor play with their friends, using playground equipment or engaging in active games. A healthy snack helps keep energy levels up.
11:00 – Mathematics
Maths lessons are interactive and practical, helping children develop fluency and problem-solving skills. Lessons may include hands-on activities, reasoning tasks and group work to build confidence with numbers.
Lunchtime
12:00 – Reading
Children will have the opportunity to read books from home or have chosen from our in-class libraries. Children will get the opportunity each week to read as a group with their class teacher, where they will be exposed to a variety of rich texts that will challenge their retrieval and inference skills. Here at Riverside, we follow the Oxford Reading Tree scheme before children move on to books of their own choice.
12:45 - Lunch
Children enjoy a healthy, balanced meal in the dining hall or packed lunch from home. Afterwards, they have time to play or relax in the quiet area with the use of picnic tables to sit on.
Afternoon Learning
1:30– Topic Lessons
Afternoons are dedicated to subjects such as Science, History, Geography, Art, and Design & Technology. Lessons are hands-on and often include investigations, projects, and teamwork. Depending on the time of year, children may be using the gymnastics equipment in PE or out in the playground playing team sports. They could be learning programming in Computing or learning new instruments in Music,
